I'm gonna need that in writing
Why is it when you get a really really good boss - they go in search of better things? Congrats are in order for my boss who took another position within AT&T's Government segment; but it does make me worry a little bit about my situation. Recently there was an incentive where many teams got rid of their remote employees to save on expenses and all. Thankfully, my Director approved me to move to Las Vegas and stay on the same team; but now that my boss is leaving... that only leaves the Director who knows about the arrangement. If something happens and he leaves - I'm going to want this in writing.
Other than that - life is just grand.
I've begun packing somethings to send and getting rid of things I don't need. It's starting to look like when I first moved in! Pretty soon I'll be off on my way across the country. Speaking of grand... I just paid off one of my credit cards!!! WOOHOO!!! Go me!
Life is great when you're not fending off the 25.9% interest rates (yes... 25.9% - I know, it was madness!!).
Under Where?
People do tend to look better in low lighting... DC Councilmember Jim Graham suggests that the male strip clubs, like Wet, Secrets, and the like, take advantage of the Dupont Down Under space which resides directly under the Dupont Circle. The underground space was originally built as a streetcar station in the 1940's, and was used in the 1990's as a food court; but has been since boarded up. What a lovely idea though - to get down and dirty... just go down under. I'm curious to see if it ever comes about. I would expect plenty of objections from residents in that area... but who knows. Perhaps it's a good thing - out of site, out of mind? I'm sure the business owners would be up for it. From the article I read in last week's MetroWeekly, the businesses would escape some of the zoning laws which restrict business hours, licenses, etc. (Photo courtesy of MetroWeekly)

Now all I have to do is pack and send. I think now it's become more of a reality than ever. My boxes came today and now I'm debating when I should start packing my things. I suppose now is better than ever to get things movin'. 22 days 'til I leave Maryland and the East Coast behind in search of bigger skies and brighter days. Ok... scratch that. Just away from the East Coast. It's somewhat frightening - knowing that you're moving away from basically everything you've grown up with. I've lived in Maryland my entire life... it's time for something new. I'll have to re-learn my surroundings all over again... new places, new streets, new people. In most ways though - I am excited beyond belief. I thought traveling overseas was a big deal when I visited Italy... but moving across the same country is just as exhilarating. It'll be a little sad though - saying goodbye to friends I've known since I was in Elementary School and even earlier will be hard; not to mention my mom. After I officially came out to her this past October, it's been great... I'm a little afraid of screwing that up, so maybe it's a good thing to put some distance between us. 22 days... it sure has come faster than I expected. I suppose these kind of things always do.
Git 'er done!
My coworker recommended I pick up this book by David Allen. I've only gotten into about 20 pages of it and already it's laid out a few good points that most people wouldn't think to do, although after explained, seem like common sense. So far, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who has a job. I get e-mails from colleagues, clients, even friends, at odd hours of the night coming into my BlackBerry and I always wonder why they're up so late working. That's not to say that I haven't burned the midnight oil to get a few things caught up or perhaps something has been sprung on me suddenly that is due the very next day - but those instances are rare. I've thought about suggesting one of my newly acquired clients read it since I'm constantly getting e-mails at 3 am (midnight her time). Never hurts to offer someone back their sleep.

Head. Ache.
What a week... the headache is probably due to the lack of sleep... so I shall defer my thoughts until the dawn.
